FAQs

What is Obera?

1

Obera is a name that derives from both my Irish and Scottish heritage. It is a modified family name which blends the Irish “O’Beara” with the Scottish-Pictish “Aber/Ober”, which was used to describe where two rivers meet, or a meeting place in general. I felt this was fitting since the music I create is a meeting of modern and traditionsal.

What does the music sound like?

2

My guitar style is melodic… heavy at times and light at others. I often get the “sounds like an epic soundtrack!” comment, and I love that. Since I produce everything on my own, what you hear is my work from top to bottom.

Why celtic music?

3

Other instrumental guitar players have gone down the classical, or traditional paths, but I hadn’t seen anyone really do instrumental rock with traditional celtic tunes, and it’s something I have wanted to do for years.

Do you write originals as well?

4

Yes, I have many tunes that are either inspired by celtic tunes, or completely original. Even the traditional tunes I cover have completely new arrangements I’ve created, new key changes and often entirely new sections and melodies to compliment the original works.
